MERCI QUÉBÉCOIS!

Aujourd'hui, je repars vers la Cité des étoiles en Russie, pour reprendre mon entrainement. Je repars avec une dose d'énergie supplémentaire et inattendue.

Je viens de vivre une semaine incroyable! Mes proches, mes amis, mes employés et vous, gens du public, m'avez livré des messages sincères, touchants et vraiment très inspirants pour la poursuite de mon aventure... notre aventure commune. Vos « bon voyage! », «l âche pas! » et « vas-y Guy! » m'ont touché profondément. Merci aux gens du Québec! La vie m'a enrichi. Par ses rencontres, ses chemins parfois sinueux et par ses expériences inoubliables. La vie m'a aussi amené aux quatre coins de la planète. Ceci est le résultat d'une grande détermination de ma part et d'une bonne dose de travail acharné avec une gang de rêveurs. 25 ans plus tard, je peux nous féliciter d'avoir eu l'audace d'essayer, la force de caractère de ne pas avoir abandonné et, surtout, d'avoir entrainé avec nous des millions de personnes.

Je me suis fait dire à maintes reprises que mes projets étaient fous, extravagants et peu réalistes. Avec le recul, force est d'admettre que j'ai eu raison de croire en ces projets. Ils ont permis à des créateurs, à des artistes, à des artisans et à des employés, plus de 4000 au total, de se réaliser comme personne, de bien vivre et, j'espère, de croire que tout est possible à force de travail et de bonne volonté. Parce ce que c'est ça le nerf de la guerre. La volonté et le respect.

J'ai l'habitude de ne pas me laisser distraire par les sceptiques. Il y en a toujours eu autour de moi et il y en aura toujours. Mais, comme les maringouins, ils font du bruit, piquent et, après quelques jours, on les oublie! J'ai beaucoup de difficulté à comprendre et à respecter les gens qui s'entêtent à freiner les rêves. Ces gens qui, défaitistes, croient que leur voix sera entendue de la population et incitera celle-ci à croire que nous sommes bien comme nous sommes.

Niveler les ambitions par le bas, encourager la médiocrité en souhaitant que ça ne fera pas de vagues et que c'est comme ça que nous allons bâtir des générations fortes et riches des expériences et de la connaissance des autres, ce n'est pas le modèle que j'ai reçu. Et ce n'est certainement pas le modèle que je veux transmettre à mes enfants.

J'ai connu le succès avec mon entreprise et ce succès m'a donné des moyens financiers. Cet argent me permet de faire beaucoup de choses que je ne pouvais pas faire dans le passé. J'ai une bonne vie, c'est vrai. Je choisis d'investir dans les emplois, dans les gens et les rêves. Je choisis de faire circuler cet argent. C'est un droit et un privilège que je me donne.

J'ai aussi fait des projets qu'on a interprétés comme « privilèges de riches » ou démonstration d'extravagance. En fait, ces projets artistiques et ces fêtes fastueuses étaient de véritables incubateurs de talents. Des projets qui permettaient à de jeunes créateurs de se faire la main. Aujourd'hui, ces mêmes créateurs travaillent sur des spectacles permanents du Cirque du Soleil.

Les légendes urbaines associées à ces fêtes me font toujours sourire, parce qu'elles sont imaginées par des adultes qui aiment valoriser leur propre statut à travers ce genre de potinage. Aujourd'hui, comme père, je me dois de ne plus laisser circuler ces ragots. Mes enfants et mes employés ne méritent pas ce traitement odieux. Je ne crois pas à ceux qui profitent des succès des autres pour s'enrichir eux-mêmes.

On a laissé sous-entendre que j'étais un « nouveau philanthrope ». Il y a pour moi une très grande différence entre la philanthropie et la notion de partage. Je ne me considère pas uniquement comme un philanthrope. J'ai toujours cru en l'importance de nourrir le cercle de la vie. Vous me qualifierez peut-être de bohème ou même de naïf, mais je peux vous assurer que c'est ce même cercle qui m'a nourri à mes débuts. Lorsque j'étais amuseur public, je comprenais l'importance de la notion de réseau, l'influence de la performance de l'artiste sur le public; cette connexion, parfois inexplicable, qui fait vivre de grands moments.

C'est comme ça que, depuis plus de 15 ans, nous avons instauré au Cirque du Soleil une valeur fondamentale à notre entreprise : celle d'offrir des projets sociaux et culturels concrets qui visent à aider les créateurs, les artistes et les communautés. Avec notre politique du 1 % de nos revenus bruts, nous souhaitons contribuer à un monde meilleur par l'entremise des arts. Il y a une chose que je n'ai jamais voulu faire, c'est de me servir de cet engagement pour valoriser notre entreprise. Nous le faisons par conviction et, jusqu'à ce jour, je sais que c'était la bonne décision.

Mon rêve d'aujourd'hui est très simple, mais je n'ai pas 25 ans pour le réaliser. J'ose croire que mes 25 dernières années constituent une base suffisamment solide pour soutenir ma nouvelle démarche. Je ne peux pas croire que mon travail du passé ne peut pas servir à définir l'avenir.

Lorsque j'ai décidé de créer la Fondation One Drop - Goutte de vie en 2007, le même esprit m'animait. Je ne veux pas faire la morale à qui que ce soit, je ne veux pas convertir qui que ce soit, mais je veux sensibiliser. Les enjeux de l'eau sur la planète concernent l'humanité, pas seulement les pauvres et pas seulement les riches.

À la veille de mes 50 ans, je viens de découvrir un autre groupe de rêveurs qui dédient leur vie à aider l'humanité. Ces explorateurs, pionniers, chercheurs et humanistes veulent changer le monde. Ils prennent la décision, malgré le risque qui s'y rattache, d'explorer l'espace et, par la même occasion, d'améliorer nos vies aujourd'hui. Il ne faut pas banaliser leur courage. Comment ne pouvons-nous pas les admirer?

L'univers des cosmonautes/astronautes et des gens qui les entourent doit nous inspirer. Cela doit servir d'exemple à la jeunesse d'aujourd'hui et aux générations futures. Je me sens privilégié de côtoyer ces gens. Ils m'ont accueilli avec beaucoup d'ouverture et ils partagent leurs connaissances avec une générosité hors du commun.

Avec ma mission sociale et poétique, j'ai choisi de mettre de l'avant un message simple. Je souhaite toucher les gens sur la question de l'eau. Je veux accomplir cette mission avec ce que je sais faire le mieux, c'est-à-dire avec une approche artistique et innovatrice pour conscientiser les gens du monde entier aux enjeux sur l'eau qui nous concernent tous.

Enfin, je voudrais très simplement vous dire que le Guy Laliberté d'aujourd'hui n'a jamais été aussi proche du Guy Laliberté d'il y a 25 ou même 30 ans! Au cours des 25 dernières années, j'ai toujours visé le même objectif : vivre ma vie avec intensité, mais surtout avec la conviction que nous pouvons changer le monde! Je ne peux pas faire fi de ça; c'est dans mes gènes! « Impossible », c'est juste un mot. Continuons à y croire.
